Designer Spotlight: Interplan

In our ongoing Designer Spotlight Series, we talk with interior designers and architects to see what inspires them, and get insights to how they approach creating beautiful spaces. In this Spotlight we talk with Interplan and find out a little bit more about their business and experience.

Stikwood: How long have you been in business as an interior designer?

Interplan: Established in 1984, Interplan is a full service commercial interior design and Architecture firm. We have provided professional design services throughout the Washington metropolitan area for over thirty-five years.

Stikwood: Tell us a bit about your business and experience:

Interplan: We have strong and varied experience across every building type. Each member of our project teams offers considerable depth and strength in his or her area of professional discipline. Interplan has a reputation for attention to detail, excellence in design concept and execution, and respect for, and understanding of, the aspirations of each client.

Stikwood: We love how you incorporate personality into the rooms you design. Tell us how Stikwood helps you achieve that.

Interplan: To answer your question, let me highlight one of the projects in which Stikwood was integral to achieving the design concept for the space.

Interplan has worked for RSM US, a national provider of business accounting and consulting services, across the country. Recently RSM US moved their San Diego offices to a building prominently situated on a bluff with unobstructed views of Torrey Point. The panoramic views of ocean and natural environment were the inspiration for the design. Every aspect of the design played its part, to support and reinforce the concept of transparency between inside and outside spaces. As you move through the spaces a mix of warm earthy browns, blues and grays reflect the relaxing tones of the local shore-scape, offset occasionally with energizing patterns and textures. Stikwood is a predominantly featured material throughout the space. The biophilic approach to the design reflects the core desire of people to connect with nature. By using Stikwood to shape the interior landscape we were able to enhance this personal relationship with the outdoors.

Stikwood: What would you say is your “signature style”?

Interplan: Interplan’s style is our Client’s style. We take our inspiration from our Clients; their needs and desires for the spaces become our own.

Stikwood: What was your favorite project using Stikwood products? What made it so special?

Interplan: I would have to say our favorite project using Stikwood was the RSM San Diego project described above. We took the use of the material a lot farther than being an isolated feature within the space. In fact, the walls covered in Stikwood were designed to be “datums” - features that oriented someone within the space, drawing your eye through the space and out the windows to the ocean landscape.

Stikwood has been a success in every project in which we have used it. We like to let the material speak for itself; therefore it is typically a “feature” wall within a project, located in a high-visibility area of the space.

Stikwood: Where can people go to find out more about your services?
