1. Calculate your wall’s total square footage
Start by measuring the height and width of your wall in inches. Multiply those two numbers to get the total square inches, then divide by 144 to convert that number into square feet.
Tip: At this stage, don’t worry about windows or doors—just measure the full wall.
Example:
85“ wide × 120” tall = 10,200 square inches
10,200 ÷ 144 = 71 square feet (rounded up)
2. Subtract cutouts like windows and doors
Next, measure any areas where Stikwood won’t be installed—like windows or doors (also called “cutouts”). Use the same method as above to calculate their square footage, then subtract that number from your total wall area.
3. Add extra for waste
To account for trimming, board selection, and potential mistakes, it’s important to order a little extra material. We recommend adding 5% to your total.
If you’re installing a patterned layout like herringbone or chevron, consider adding 10%, since angled cuts tend to create more waste.
