When Journey Church in Muskegon, Michigan set out to elevate one of their most-used interior spaces, they weren’t just looking for a design upgrade, they wanted an environment that reflected the heart of their ministry: warmth, connection, and intention. With a vision to modernize their back office area, where they film testimonials and host network team meetings, the church partnered with Stikwood’s new Slatwood collection to create a space that feels both inviting and inspiring. The result is a stunning transformation featuring Slatwood in Dark Oak, seamlessly blending modern design with the church’s mission-centered values.

Design That Reflects the Heart of the Church

For Journey Church, aesthetics were only part of the goal. Their deeper desire was to enhance a room that plays an important role behind the scenes: storytelling, community-building, and leadership development. “We wanted to add some texture and warmth to the room, as it perfectly fits our values,” Laura shares. “Our mission is centered on connection—helping people explore and experience a relationship with God, with each other, and with those in need. We wanted the space to feel like an extension of that.” Slatwood became the ideal solution, thanks to its natural beauty and elevated simplicity.

Why Dark Oak Slatwood Was the Perfect Fit

After reviewing the finishes and evaluating the space, the team chose Slatwood Dark Oak for its richness and versatility.

When discussing the plan with Pastor Matt, we wanted to add warmth and texture while complementing the existing furniture, cabinetry, and flooring in the room,” Laura explains. Dark Oak delivered all of that—and more. Once installed, the transformation was immediate. “It added exactly the warmth and texture we were looking for,” she says.“Even better, it helped dampen the noise from the kids’ room just on the other side of the wall.

An Effortless Installation in a Busy, Functional Space

Because the room serves multiple purposes, efficiency was key—and Slatwood made the process surprisingly simple.

The installation was nearly effortless,” Laura says. “It was as easy as lifting the panels to the wall, inserting drywall screws, and moving to the next one.

Even cutting around a single outlet turned out to be easier than expected. “We were able to cut through the Slatwood with an Exacto knife! We couldn’t believe how simple the entire process was.”

For a space that sees constant activity—from meetings to video shoots—minimal disruption and maximum impact were exactly what the church needed.

A Warm, Cohesive Atmosphere That Invites People In

Since completing the installation, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.

Everyone who has seen it absolutely loves it,” Laura shares. “We’ve even had multiple people ask where they can get Slatwood for their own homes.” The transformation goes beyond beauty—it enhances the atmosphere.

The space is now warm and cohesive. It promotes a more inviting and comfortable environment for gathering.”
