Project Spotlight: Strategic Materials from n2Design Studio

In our new Project Spotlight Series, we talk with architects and designers about some of their most inspiring projects and take a look behind the scenes at their creative visions. This week, n2DESIGN sat with us to share the details on how they created an industrial modern space for the corporate headquarters of a glass recycling company.

Stikwood: Tell us a bit about your business and experience.

n2DESIGN: N2 Design Studio is a boutique design firm that focuses on architectural interiors. We bring together 30+ years of design experience and aim to please our clients with unique and creative solutions to enhance their workspace. Our designers are adept at listening to our clients’ needs and creating dynamic, artful interiors. We strive to provide our clients with a professional, responsive and collaborative approach to achieve these goals.

Stikwood: What was your favorite project using Stikwood products? What made it so special?

n2DESIGN: Strategic Materials; This company’s focus is recycling, so being able to use a raw, beautiful wood recycled product like Stikwood throughout their space provided warmth and was a natural complement to their colorful recycled glass materials.

Stikwood: Can you tell us a little bit more about your role in creating and designing this space?

n2DESIGN: We were selected to provide all phases of design from programming and space planning, to design development, construction documentation, contract administration, and FF&E.

Stikwood: What inspired you to take the design direction you chose?

n2DESIGN: The use of recycled materials and the client’s own manufactured products was of great value to their business to be able to showcase their product in a unique and artful way. After visiting one of the glass recycling facilities, we knew we had to incorporate the vibrant colored glass throughout their space.

Stikwood: Can you dive a little deeper into how and why the use of the recycled glass and wood played such a critical role in your design process?

n2DESIGN: Since one aspect of their business focus is recycling glass, it was a natural extension for us to utilize their raw material and upcycled products made from their cullet, as well. Glass cullet is quite stunning in bulk and so it allowed us a unique opportunity to turn their raw material into an artistic expression, both highlighting their business focus and generating a beautiful aesthetic. We used backlighting to enhance the various colors of glass and showcased them behind plexiglass to enliven the reception area. The plexiglass boxes were surrounded by a wall clad in Stikwood which created a warm backdrop for the colorful display.

Stikwood: Where can people go to find out more about your services?

n2DESIGN: www.n2ds.net

"It was our goal to collaborate with all team members and vendors to achieve a space using as much recycled material as possible to help showcase their merchandise and mission. We did so with custom-designed wine bottle pendants, reclaimed wood, recycled glass countertops and wall tiles, and upcycled flooring."
