When content creator Tanya Owens (@livingbeautifulwithtlo) set out to transform her Maryland bedroom, she wanted to create a space that felt warm, cozy, and undeniably luxurious — the kind of room that could easily be mistaken for a page out of a design magazine. The result? A stunning statement wall featuring Slatwood Chorus panels in Aged Oak that brings texture, depth, and timeless character to her home.
Blending Modern Design with Natural Warmth
“I’m not certain if I have a specific design style, as I adore them all,” Tanya shares. “But I’m particularly drawn to modern homes that incorporate vibrant colors, diverse textures, and intriguing prints.”
That love for natural materials and visual interest is what drew her to Slatwood in the first place. “I wanted to showcase the natural texture of the wood, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere with a sense of depth and character,” she explains. The vertical wood slats instantly grounded the space while adding an elegant architectural element.
Choosing the Perfect Finish
Tanya selected Aged Oak, one of Slatwood’s most beloved finishes, known for its rich tones and neutral versatility. “It’s a warm, rich color that’s also neutral and creates the ideal backdrop for any design style,” she says. “It narrates a story of natural elements merging with luxury.”
The finish complements her layered aesthetic beautifully — adding just enough texture to make the space feel both modern and cozy.
Effortless Installation, Even in an Older Home
While she was initially nervous about installation due to her 1960s home’s unconventional walls, those concerns quickly disappeared once she began the process.
“I was apprehensive about using drywall screws to secure the Slatwood, but it turned out to be incredibly easy! The screws went in effortlessly,” she recalls. “The majority of the time spent was just cutting each panel to fit the space.”
Even for homes with quirks and character, Slatwood panels prove to be both adaptable and DIY-friendly.
A Space That Feels Like a Luxury Hotel
After completing the installation, the transformation was immediate, not only visually, but acoustically as well.
“My space feels and looks warm and cozy! Whenever I walk by my room, I forget where I am. It looks like a room in a luxury hotel,” Tanya says. “Living in a townhome, I could usually hear my neighbors moving around, but now I can’t — and I love it.”
That sound-dampening felt backing is part of what makes Slatwood so unique. It doesn’t just look beautiful — it enhances comfort and peace.
Design That Inspires Others
The reveal has been a showstopper among her friends and family. “When my friends see my bedroom, they pause and stare in awe! It becomes a topic of discussion, and they express their desire to transform their own rooms into something similar.”
Her advice for anyone considering Slatwood? “Order a couple of samples first so you can see how the design and color look in your space — lighting can significantly affect the appearance.”
