When lifestyle and DIY creator Brittany Scanlan set her sights on updating her entryway, she wasn’t looking for a typical transformation. Instead of turning to an accent wall, statement paint, or a rug swap, she looked up—literally. The Philly-suburbs mom of four turned her hallway ceiling into a showpiece using Stikwood peel-and-stick wood planks in the finish Sand Stone, and the result is nothing short of breathtaking.

From Traditional to Unexpected—Without the Time Commitment

As a former teacher turned stay-at-home mom and content creator, Brittany balances creativity with convenience. “I love any product that makes my life easier and saves me time—because with four little kids, I have very little free time!” she explains.

That efficiency is what originally drew her to Stikwood. With no need for heavy power tools overhead and lightweight boards that are simple to maneuver on a ladder, the peel-and-stick format made the project both realistic and enjoyable.

And once she discovered the Sand Stone finish, inspiration struck immediately.
As soon as I saw it, I knew it was exactly what I had been looking for! It’s gorgeous!”

Why Sand Stone Was the Perfect Match

Choosing the right tone was key to the balance of Brittany’s small entryway.

Sand Stone had the perfect combination of neutral and warmth,” she shares. “It’s not too orangey, not too grey, and overall pretty consistent from board to board. Our hardwood floors are very orangey, and Sand Stone helps balance some of that brightness.

The result is a ceiling that coordinates—rather than competes—with the rest of the space, adding harmony and visual interest.

A First Impression that Wows

Entryways set the tone for the rest of a home, and Brittany wanted hers to feel cozy and inviting from the moment someone steps inside. Stikwood delivered on that vision.

Oh, it’s a dream,” she says. “Being the first ‘room’ you walk into when you step into our home, I feel like it is welcoming and for sure adds major visual texture! No one is going to walk into a house with white ceilings and say, ‘Wow, I love your ceiling!’ But with Stikwood? That’s the VERY first thing guests say!

Effortless Installation—Even Overhead

The thought of applying materials overhead can be intimidating, but Brittany describes the process as refreshingly approachable.

It was effortless! Truly! The boards are lightweight and not obnoxiously long, so maneuvering up and down my ladder and getting them secured properly was a breeze,” she says. “I loved not having to hold a heavy power tool above my head to nail anything in. The stickers on the back were so easy to work with and made the process efficient and enjoyable.

Her favorite tip for anyone tackling a similar project:
I sorted the boards before starting from biggest to smallest, which made it so easy to find the right lengths and randomize throughout the process.
