Decorate A Kid Friendly Family Room With Reclaimed Shiplap

Sarah, a working mom of active boys, reached out to Stephanie Pohlman Designs to re-design her living room using reclaimed shiplap. She wanted a family room that would be both functional and beautiful. Stephanie helped her realize that, “Having two boys doesn’t mean [she has] to sacrifice on style.”

When the two embarked on the transformation of Sarah’s living room, they reached out to us and asked if we’d help. We loved Stephanie’s vision of incorporating texture through using both interesting textiles and reclaimed shiplap rather than layering artwork on an expansive wall in Sarah’s living room. So, we hopped on board and helped them create their vision using one of our best sellers, Hamptons Shiplap.

Our reclaimed shiplap is the epitome of sophistication. The natural grain of the reclaimed wood mixed with the rippled texture help give the family room a relaxed feeling, while the clean white color adds modern elegance.

Sarah’s living room transformation went from nice to WOW in a matter of a day. We love the gorgeous herringbone design that she chose and think it incorporates an eye-catching sense of style. Stephanie and Sarah paired our white pine planks with a neutral color palette and pops of naturally stained wood elements like a bamboo rattan chair and a blanket ladder for a contemporary look.

Stephanie loves to make sure she works with her clients to get the look they want, while keeping it on trend. She says, the idea of minimalism definitely played a role in choosing Hamptons Shiplap, “I love the simplicity of the Hamptons color,” and “Hamptons has just enough distressing to not be overpowering.”

Stephanie really hit the nail on the head with this look. Sarah mentioned that she entertains a lot. Since installing Stikwood, people have said things like:

  • “WOW!  Your house is stunning”
  • “OMG I love that wall, what is that?”
  • “Is that real wood?”
  • “I’m obsessed with that wall.”

Stephanie’s goal was to make sure she gave Sarah a place to come home to every day and spend time with her family. She wanted to add accents that helped create that cozy, family-friendly room she knew Sarah would love. We're thrilled with how Hamptons reclaimed wood planks helped her do just that.
