In our ongoing Designer Spotlight Series, we talk with interior designers and architects to see what inspires them, and get insights to how they approach creating beautiful spaces… in this Spotlight we caught up with a business owner we've been a fan of for quite some time, Jack Ovadia of Ovadia Design Group to learn more about his design expertise.
Stikwood: Tell us a bit about your business and experience.
Jack: I've been in business 15 years. I feel work experience is crucial to gain knowledge and be successful in any field; therefore, from the start of my architecture program I began working at an architecture and interior design company in New York City. I worked in several different firms throughout my college career. I felt that work experience was essential in order to be able to find the perfect job to enable my career to take off when I graduated college. By the time I graduated I was a head project designer in a top design firm.
After spending a few years gaining experience in high-end residential home design, I moved on to another company which primarily focused on commercial projects and headed the design of hedge fund offices, retail stores, projects for St. John University, and Sony Music, to name a few. I wanted to make sure I had experience in all aspects of my field. Following this, I worked as an in-house designer for a successful real estate company which gave me more experience on commercial buildings. At that point, I had obtained a level of expertise in all aspects of interior design and architecture, for both residential and commercial spaces. After approximately ten years of experience working in the field I felt ready to start Ovadia Design Group. Through networking, word of mouth and my professional reputation, I was fortunate to be able to start ODG and provide architecture and interior design services providing a fulfilling experience for our clients.
Stikwood: How did you discover Stikwood and what inspired you to give our products a try?
Jack: I saw them at a trade show when they first launched and was impressed by how simple the install seemed so I was eager to use them.
Stikwood: We love how you incorporate personality into the rooms you design. Tell us how Stikwood helps you achieve that.
Jack: Stikwood made it easy for us to customize a pattern for the exact install design we wanted, and we were able to choose from many colors and finishes to coordinate perfectly with the space we designed.
Stikwood: What would you say is your “signature style”?
Jack: Ovadia Design Group’s signature style can ultimately be described as timeless. We incorporate innovation, functionality, and a level of elegance in all of our upscale designs.
We always keep the individuality of our client in mind, as each one is unique and brings their own perspective to a project. No two projects are designed the same way in order to maintain an element of excitement and uniqueness.
The style concepts differ between commercial and residential. Commercial designs are based more on brand identity and residential projects are dictated more by function to fit the client’s lifestyle and family. I quickly discovered that if you’re designing a trend, you become a trend. Less is more as long as there is quality in each individual piece, therefore quality over quantity is always emphasized and we never overdo it.
We believe that functionality is everything. We accommodate the individual taste of each client, and merge it with our expertise in crafting architectural design highlights and selecting the perfect color palette and precise materials for each space. Whether commercial or residential, every project we design results in a unique, custom-tailored, and exclusive look that must “WOW” the client and stand the test of time.
Stikwood: What was your favorite project using Stikwood products? What made it so special?
Jack: My favorite stikwood project was the coffee shop, the way it really made the entire back drop to the space and really giving the look of reclaimed wood.
Stikwood: What is your best piece of advice to offer someone who wants to redecorate a room on their own?
Jack: We would advise they incorporate colors, textures and materials that reflect the person’s personality so it feels custom tailored to them.
Stikwood: Where can people go to find out more about your services?
Jack: Check out Ovadiadesign.com or @ovadiaovadiadesigngroup.
